If you’ve started dreaming about a destination wedding or elopement, you may already have places like New Zealand, or the Amalfi Coast dancing in your mind. But what about Australia!?!?
Australia is often overlooked or underappreciated when it comes to destination weddings and I don’t understand why?! Australia has a unique appeal, exceptional beauty and so much potential.
Sure, I might be biased, but after exploring so much of the country with my husband, I’ve seen Australia’s breath-taking beauty firsthand.
I haven’t photographed a destination elopement yet (you could be my first!) but as someone who’s crisscrossed the country in search of the perfect views and hidden gems, I’ve got a list of the perfect locations for every adventurous couple:
The Daintree Rainforest, QLD – Fancy a lush, tropical elopement? The Daintree is the oldest rainforest in the world, where ancient trees and dense greenery create an almost mythical vibe.
The Flinders Ranges, SA – For something rugged and dramatic, the Flinders Ranges offers dusty pink landscapes, sweeping mountain ranges, and a touch of the outback charm.
The Blue Mountains, NSW – Close to Sydney but worlds away in feel, the Blue Mountains bring misty forests, dramatic cliffs, and lush greenery. Ideal for couples who want to combine adventure with just a touch of mystical romance.
Exmouth, WA – Imagine saying “I do” with the turquoise waters of Ningaloo Reef as your backdrop. Exmouth offers vibrant coral, white sands, and a tranquil escape where marine life is part of the scenery. It’s remote, serene, and truly unforgettable!!
Tasmania – Need I say more?! Landscape and location choices are endless! It’s pure beauty everywhere you go.
Birdsville, QLD – This outback town offers a one-of-a-kind desert experience. Picture endless red sands, vast open skies, and a true adventure in one of Australia’s most remote settings with celebratory bevvies at the Birdsville Hotel, of course! Perfect for couples who want to get off the grid and embrace the rugged romance of the Australian outback.
Lord Howe Island, NSW – A short flight from Sydney, Lord Howe Island is Australia’s Hawaii! With tropical beaches, volcanic peaks, and palm forests, it’s an ideal spot for an intimate, paradise-like elopement where nature is untouched and breathtakingly beautiful.
Central Australia (Uluru & Beyond) – For a truly iconic experience, Central Australia offers striking landscapes and rich cultural significance. Imagine tying the knot near Uluru, surrounded by the powerful stillness of the desert. This scream “iconic destination wedding Australia!”
Cape Keraudren, WA – This lesser-known cape offers raw, untouched beauty along the Pilbara coast. It’s perfect for couples looking for solitude and scenery, with sweeping views over turquoise waters and rugged cliffs.
Kalbarri, WA – With its dramatic coastal cliffs, river gorges, and seasonal wildflowers, Kalbarri is a visual feast. It’s the ideal mix of beach and bush, and you’ll have no shortage of spots to capture every beautiful moment.
Yorke Peninsula, SA – If you love rugged coastlines, rolling sand dunes, and secluded beaches, Yorke Peninsula is the spot for you. There’s a sense of wild freedom here, where you can exchange vows to the sound of crashing waves.
Fleurieu Peninsula, SA – Known for its wine country, scenic coastline, and charming towns, the Fleurieu Peninsula is as romantic as it gets. You can say “I do” with ocean views, then toast to your new life together at a cozy vineyard.
Lady Elliot Island, QLD – As the southernmost coral cay of the Great Barrier Reef, Lady Elliot Island is a tropical paradise. With coral lagoons and marine life all around, it’s the perfect location for an island-style elopement!
When it comes to planning a destination elopement or wedding in Australia, there’s one thing to remember: the 5 P’s — prior preparation prevents piss poor performance! Yes, the planning can be intense, but trust me, it’s going to be soooo worth it, and I’ll be right by your side through every step. From applying for and sourcing permits to ensuring all regulations are adhered to.
If you haven’t done the legal side of things before your destination celebration, make sure to bring along your witnesses, too! And if you’re stressing about fresh flowers in a remote spot, don’t worry! Stunning faux and silk bouquets are available, looking just as gorgeous as the real thing.
Experience the extraordinary and have your destination elopement captured with insanely beautiful memories that you’ll joyfully cry over, forever.
